Where Kilncasting Meets the Digital Studio
Some workshops teach you a technique. This one asks what becomes possible when two very different ways of making meet.
From September 17–21, artist Norwood Viviano will join us for five days of Innovative Kilncasting—a hands-on exploration of traditional glass casting alongside 3D computer modeling, 3D printing, and rubber mold making.
You’ll move between digital tools and tactile processes, learning how each can open new doors in the other. The workshop brings together:
- 3D computer modeling and 3D printing
- Mold making and classic wax working
- Plaster investment and kilncasting methods
Norwood’s own practice lives at this meeting point. His glass and sculptural work has been shown at the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the Chrysler Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery, and is held in collections including the Corning Museum of Glass and the de Young Museum.

- Open to beginning and intermediate students
- Limited to eight students
- Bring a laptop; the workshop software is free
